The EHFOP's Traveling Exhibit, Picturing Hemingway: A Writer In His Time, has gone around the state of Illinois this year, bringing the story of Hemingway and Oak Park to colleges and municipal libraries hundreds of miles away. The exhibit is part of the Foundation's mission of outreach, bringing the visual impact of Hemingway’s life to as wide an audience as possible.
Picturing Hemingway: A Writer In His Time is a traveling exhibit produced by The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. The traveling exhibit is a modified version of an original exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery. It consists of approximately 70 historic photos from public and private collections accompanied by insightful labels. These pictures and text appear against backgrounds of halftone color photos evocative of their place and time in Hemingway's life. The exhibit has been touring throughout the U.S. and abroad since its opening in Oak Park in 1999. The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is the site manager for the exhibit and is responsible for all scheduling, promotion, maintenance and coordinating transportation to each Sponsor and Host site.
This exhibit may be used for educational purposes only and, except for reasonable admission fees charged for access to a facility in the normal course of its operation, no admission fee may be charged to view the exhibit without prior written approval. In addition, no photography of the exhibit is allowed except for educational or publicity uses.
